What is S. Boulardii?
In the early 1920s while searching in Indochina for a new yeast strain to be used in fermentation, Henri Boulard, a French microbiologist noticed that drinking a special tea made of the peel of lychee and mangosteen could stop the progression of cholera symptoms.
Boulard then isolated and named the yeast after himself, Saccharomyces boulardii (S. boulardii).
S. Boulardii is commonly used to treat rotaviral diarrhoea among children, traveller's diarrhoea and antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.
They work exceptionally well for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D).
S. boulardii can be consumed at any time of the day, with or without food, due to its robust nature.
